The Elements Behind Creating a Script...

The script, is more commonly known as the screenplay. It is written within present tense, and expresses what the audience will see and hear therefore it is a visual, allowing a written blueprint for the entire film making process to be created. A screenplay has many component and they must be arranged in the right place, and although there are thousands of constructions of a screenplay experts state that all these can come together in ten major building block, and it is these essentials which I have applied when creating my own screenplay, although some I have had to adapt in order to fit a short film criteria rather than a feature film :
Story and Character : A screenplay starts from a high concept idea as well as from the development of an unforgettable character
Outline Before Writing : Before starting to write the screenplay, it is essential that you know how it will end and begin and that you are able to create five major point about the plot
Three-Act Structure : All though a sequence can be debated, experts agree that the story is told in three main aspects
Original Voice : Clear and concise writing is key to creating a screenplay, keeping action description to just four lines or less whilst ensuring that it still sounds original
Screenplay Form : A professional format is a must, as well as correct page appearance
What Happens Next : All scenes must move the story forward or reveal the character or do both however any scene that does neither is not necessary and therefore should be cut
Short Scenes : A screenplay must move fast, therefore three pages should be the absolute maximum before you cut to a new location, typically half a page is used within feature films
Brief Dialogue : Film in itself is a visual medium, it should be shown therefore the dialogue lines should be kept short
Under 120 Pages : One screenplay page equals to one film minute, therefore a feature drama film should be around 120 pages
Know The Logline : In one sentence be able to pit "what the story is about"
